The Most Common Dog Behavior Problems

It's always the same problems that dog owners turn to pet experts with. We tell you how to solve the five most common difficulties.

Some problems arise very often between dogs and humans. Often, these difficulties are simply based on a misunderstanding that needs to be cleared up. These tips can help you restore clarity.

1. the dog does not give toys

The dog should learn to pass the ball, stick, or another toy to you at any time. Have your dog "make room," throw the toy, and retrieve it yourself. If the dog gets up, start over. If you try this a few times a day, he should understand that you have a right to that item.

2. the dog does not listen to your call

If your dog runs off and won't let you call him off, he has probably discovered something that has caught his interest. If you want to keep your dog's attention, you should call the dog to you even before he starts running to follow the scent. If his body tenses up and he sticks his nose in the air, you should already call him.

If he comes to you, you should greet him with a big reward. This way, your dog knows that he has something to look forward to when he comes to you. This is an important rule that you should follow for free running with a dog.

3. male dog reacts aggressively to other male dogs on leash.

Interrupt your dog's aggressive behavior with a stop signal, such as jingling your keychain. Practice with your dog interrupting the unwanted behavior in response to the sound. If it succeeds, reward him extensively.

4. no one is allowed near him while he is being fed.

While you are preparing the food, let the dog stay in his place. He should not come until you call him. Signal to him that he may eat now and immediately and remain standing next to him during his meal. However, let your dog eat in peace - petting him is now taboo.

Afterward, take the bowl back with you. Never take it away while your dog is still eating. This can promote his aggression if he wants to defend his resource.

5. the dog does not want to stay alone

Generally, it is said that goodbye and greeting rituals should be avoided. If you act as if it is nothing special that you are leaving or coming back, your dog will perceive it that way.

Stay away for only about five minutes at first and then slowly extend the period. Act relaxed and normal when you come or go. Remember: Getting a dog used to being alone may take a lot of time and patience.

Often the problems we have with dogs are based on misunderstandings. However, if you get these out of the way, the basis for peaceful coexistence is created.
